Student visa insurance requirements
How to check medical insurance before applying for a Czech study visa

Before you act: This guide is informational. Official immigration rules, insurer terms and coverage eligibility may change. Verify current details with the relevant Czech authority and the insurer.
GUIDE 1 / 3
Start with your residence status
- Students arriving from outside the EU/EEA often need proof of appropriate medical insurance. The exact requirements depend on the visa, length of stay and whether another insurance system already covers you.
- Check the current instructions provided by the Czech embassy or Ministry of the Interior for your application type.
- Do not assume every travel policy meets requirements for a long-term stay.
GUIDE 2 / 3
Check the policy, not just the headline
- Compare the cover period, territory, scope of medical care, exclusions and documents supplied after purchase.
- For relevant long-term visa and residence applications, the statutory minimum is EUR 400,000 per insured event without cost sharing by the insured person. The required scope of cover and documents depend on the application and whether public insurance or an exemption applies.
- A quote from our calculator is indicative; only Slavia confirms your product and final premium.
GUIDE 3 / 3
Prepare the application documents
- Have your passport, dates of stay and proof of study ready before opening the official insurer application.
- Review the certificate, contract and proof of payment that the insurer provides; ask the embassy which documents to bring.
- If eligible, choose University Student in the official application.

Build your application checklist
Choose your situation to see the relevant official guidance. This checklist is only a planning aid; the required documents and submission stage depend on your case.
When applying at a Czech diplomatic mission, the stage when insurance documents are required may differ from an application filed inside Czechia.
For relevant long-term private travel medical insurance, the current official minimum is EUR 400,000 per insured event without a deductible. Exceptions and special rules, including for children, may apply.
Important: Do not assume a student insurance rate is available solely because you study. Slavia confirms product eligibility and the final premium. Children and people in Czech public health insurance may follow different rules.
Selections stay on this page only. We do not save or transmit your checklist.
