Czech Student Visa & Health Insurance: Guide for Türkiye
Planning to study in Czechia from Türkiye? Find the right Czech consulate, understand study visas versus short exchanges, and check when medical insurance is required.

Before you act: This guide is informational. Official immigration rules, insurer terms and coverage eligibility may change. Verify current details with the relevant Czech authority and the insurer.
GUIDE 1 / 4
Choose your route: degree studies or a short exchange
- Confirm your admission, programme length and the legal purpose of your stay with your university. Long-term study visas and long-term residence permits are different applications, and not every preparatory course follows the same rules.
- Turkish ordinary-passport holders generally require a visa even for short Schengen stays. Turkish special or green passports have a limited short-stay visa exemption; do not assume that it covers a full degree programme or long-term residence.
- Some participants who already hold a study residence permit in another EU country may qualify for study mobility under a recognised university agreement or EU programme. Check the specific mobility rules rather than automatically buying a long-term policy.

Ankara or Istanbul? Apply at the responsible consulate
- The Czech Embassy in Ankara and the Consulate General in Istanbul serve different Turkish provinces. Your place of residence determines which office you should contact; verify the current province list on their official websites.
- Ankara normally requires advance email registration for long-term visa and residence applications. Its official guidance describes the registration address, required subject, PDF copies of your passport and study-purpose evidence, and residency proof for its consular district.
- Istanbul has its own long-term visa and residence appointment instructions. Follow its current schedule and registration requirements rather than applying according to Ankara instructions.
- Long-term visa and residence supporting documents generally require Czech-language originals or official Czech translations where applicable. Check certification and authentication rules before booking travel.

Health insurance: when do you need the certificate?
- For relevant long-term study applications lodged at a Czech diplomatic mission, proof of appropriate travel medical insurance is generally presented after approval and before collecting the visa or entry visa for your residence permit.
- Current Czech insurance rules specify a limit of at least EUR 400,000 per insured event, without a deductible, when private medical insurance documentation is required. Exemptions and public-insurance entitlements depend on your circumstances.
- An applicable long-term route may permit either comprehensive cover for your entire stay or emergency and necessary cover for the first 90 days combined with comprehensive cover for the remaining period. Confirm which option the authorities will accept in your case.
- For short Schengen visits and some exchange or EU mobility arrangements, the relevant health-insurance rules can differ from those for a full long-term study programme. Check the exact requirements before buying.
