Moving from India to study in Czechia? Check New Delhi study-visa appointment rules, documents, insurance timing and the steps before travel.

Before you act: This guide is informational. Official immigration rules, insurer terms and coverage eligibility may change. Verify current details with the relevant Czech authority and the insurer.

GUIDE 1 / 4

First confirm your Czech study route

  • Get your university admission or enrolment confirmation and check whether your course qualifies for the legal purpose of studies. A language or preparatory programme may require a different application route.
  • For stays longer than three months, determine whether you should apply for a long-term visa or a long-term residence permit for studies. Your university international office and the Czech Ministry of the Interior can help identify the correct procedure.
  • Prepare the documents for your specific application: usually a valid passport, university confirmation, proof of accommodation, financial means and other supporting records. Check the embassy requirements for certified copies and Czech translations.

GUIDE 2 / 4

Study appointments in New Delhi: follow the official email registration

  • The Czech Embassy in New Delhi publishes specific registration periods for Indian citizens applying for study and educational activities. These windows change; always check the linked official appointment page rather than an old blog calendar.
  • Follow the embassy registration email instructions exactly. At the time of writing, the embassy asks Indian applicants to place only their passport number in the email subject and include their name, type and purpose of stay in the message.
  • The embassy requests PDF scans of the passport identity page and confirmation of the study purpose with the registration email. It allows one email per applicant and has attachment-size and time-window restrictions; read the official page before sending anything.
  • Do not assume that an agent can guarantee an appointment. Some university-nominated students may be eligible for the Student Facilitation Programme (Režim Student); ask your school whether you qualify.

GUIDE 3 / 4

Arrange medical insurance at the right stage

  • For relevant study applications submitted abroad, medical insurance evidence is generally required before the visa is placed in your passport, following a positive decision. Do not assume you must buy a full policy before your initial appointment.
  • Where comprehensive private medical insurance is required for a long-term stay, current Czech rules specify a minimum of EUR 400,000 per insured event without a deductible. Students with Czech public insurance or another legally recognised arrangement may be exempt.
  • Depending on the application route, the official rules may allow emergency and essential medical cover for the first 90 days plus comprehensive cover for the remainder, or comprehensive cover for the whole stay. Check which documents and dates the embassy needs.
  • The diplomatic mission may request proof that insurance has been paid. Confirm the required policy certificate, coverage dates, exclusions and translations before paying.

GUIDE 4 / 4

Before travel and after arrival

  • Compare an indicative student premium on SHC and confirm the actual policy and student-rate eligibility in the official Slavia application. University acceptance alone does not guarantee the discounted Student tariff.
  • Save the policy certificate, payment confirmation when required, the insurer assistance contact and your university documents for travel.
  • Follow your school and the Ministry of the Interior instructions for residence-card appointments and any arrival registration. Requirements depend on your visa or residence status.
