How to arrange your appointment

  1. 1

    Choose the right care

For an ordinary illness, try a general practitioner (praktický lékař). For children, choose a pediatrician. A referral may be needed for some specialists.

  2. 2

    Confirm English and availability

Ask: “Do you have an English-speaking doctor and are you accepting new patients?” Online search results do not guarantee either.

  3. 3

    Check insurance before treatment

Give Slavia assistance your policy number and describe the planned visit. Ask about a contracted provider, pre-approval, direct billing, exclusions and possible upfront charges.

  4. 4

    Book and prepare

Confirm appointment time and address. Bring your passport or ID, insurance card/certificate, medication list and relevant reports.

  5. 5

    Keep your paperwork

If you pay, ask for an itemised invoice, proof of payment and medical report. Follow the insurer’s claims instructions.

Not sure what to say on the phone?

“Hello, I have Slavia health insurance and I need an English-speaking doctor in [city]. My policy number is [policy number]. Could you help me find a suitable provider and confirm whether my visit is covered and whether I need approval before treatment?”

Will the doctor charge me?

Being listed online, speaking English or appearing in a provider list does not guarantee a free visit. Direct billing depends on your policy, the facility and the service provided. Private and premium services may involve additional fees. Check with Slavia before non-emergency treatment.

Ask explicitly whether you should pay upfront, whether prior authorisation is needed, and how to claim reimbursement if applicable.

Is it an emergency?

For a life-threatening condition, serious injury, chest pain or severe difficulty breathing, call 155 (ambulance) or 112. Do not delay urgent care while looking for an English-speaking practice or insurance approval.

Quick answers

Do all English-speaking doctors accept Slavia insurance?

No. Speaking English and accepting a particular insurance product are separate matters. Check directly with the provider and Slavia assistance.

Can I book a specialist without visiting a GP?

Some specialists offer direct appointments; others may require a referral or prior approval. Confirm requirements with the clinic and insurer before booking.

What should I do if I cannot find a doctor accepting patients?

Call Slavia assistance with your city, symptoms and insurance number. You can also ask university international offices about local providers, but insurance coverage must still be verified.

Can I use online consultations?

Telemedical services may be available depending on the product and service conditions. Ask your insurer which consultations are included before relying on them.
